True Custom Comes From Design/Build Apporach to Home Building
Definition of “Custom”: made, fitted or designed and built to the needs or preferences of a specific customer. By definition, many so-called custom builders are anything but.

Over the past few years the word “Custom” has become watered down to the point that nearly anyone who builds a home is calling themselves a “Custom Home Builder”. It’s as if because you get to choose certain colors, finishes, textures and hardware, you’re getting a custom-built home. This would be like Nike or Adidas saying they made custom shoes just for you because you get to pick which size fits.

No two homebuyers are the same—therefore no two homes should be the same. To that end, Dreams and Design Building is always at the forefront of cutting-edge ideas and builds truly custom homes full of rich character to fit each individual family’s needs and lifestyle.

Kevin Stallings, President of Dreams & Design Building and a CGB (Certified Green Builder), has achieved a remarkable level of success during his more then 25 years of building award-winning custom homes. This longevity has taught Stallings a number of very important lessons. Among the more important of these lessons learned, is to be versatile, willing to conform his building techniques to fit what the customer needs and desires. He has also discovered how crucial it is to listen to his clients and absorb their input throughout the design-build processes.

This “customer satisfaction focused” approach, along with an acute attention to detail, has allowed Stallings to construct some of the most beautifully crafted, energy efficient, custom designed and structurally sound custom homes in the area. Their design-build process allows them to combine construction management with traditional architectural and interior design services while maximizing the attributes and potential of home sites and surroundings that others do not. This is imperative to ensure that the customer’s total vision is realized.

“All design work is done in-house. We believe that the key to buyer satisfaction is builder performance—and it is our goal to provide the highest quality in every phase of the building process,” explains Stallings. “We will customize any of our plans, build a plan you already have or design a unique home from "scratch" just for you. I’ve had ideas brought to me drawn on napkins and even sketched out on notebook paper.”

Additionally, Dreams & Design Building has been recognized by EnergyStar.gov as the #1 Builder of single family Energy Star Certified homes in the Kansas City market. This recognition is a direct result of Stallings’ dedication to constructing homes that exceed industry efficiency standards in every way. Still today, there are a limited number of home builders in the area that are constructing a few homes that are Energy Star qualified Version 3.0 homes. The number of Energy Star 3.0 Certified homes Stallings has built is at 52—and Counting!

“We are committed to our customers and dedicated to designing and building homes that last a lifetime. Throughout the construction of our homes, we work closely with each client to ensure they get exactly what they want. Trends are always changing so our designs remain fluid and timely. These are the key components that create our most valuable asset, our reputation. We have built our reputation as carefully as we do our finest homes. It is earned again and again, each time we utilize our experience and resources in the creation of a new TRUE CUSTOM home.”

Stallings suggests to do your homework when picking a custom builder. You should be involved in the entire process of designing and building a home since it is one of life’s biggest investments and must provide for your needs for years to come. Ultimately it’s about the relationship with your builder, not the price. As Stallings says, “some can design but not build while others can build but not design—we do it all”.
